You have two ropes. Each takes exactly 60 minutes to burn, but they burn unevenly, so you can’t assume half the rope burns in 30 minutes. How do you measure exactly 45 minutes?

Answer: Light one rope at both ends and the second rope at one end simultaneously. The first rope burns out in 30 minutes. The instant it does, light the second rope’s other end. That remaining half burns twice as fast, finishing in 15 minutes. Total time: 45 minutes.

Answer: Put one red marble in the first jar and the remaining 49 red plus all 50 blue in the second jar. This gives a 50% chance of picking the jar with the single red marble (guaranteed red) plus a chance from the other jar.
